Half of the fanbase claimed Watt was simply standing firm in his personal beliefs. while the other half criticized him as “insensitive” during a week meant to highlight and honor a community facing real struggles.
Inside the Steelers organization. the atmosphere was described as tense but not fractured. Head coach Mike Tomlin refused to dive deeply into the controversy. emphasizing instead that the team would “remain fully focused on the Bengals.” Some players privately supported Watt. while others chose to remain silent to avoid being drawn into a league-wide debate.
