Houston Texans Sign Former Colts CB Ameer Speed, Head Coach Delivers Heartfelt Message to Fans

The Houston Texans have added a familiar face to their practice squad ahead of their Week 13 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. The team announced the signing of cornerback Ameer Speed, a three-year NFL veteran who was originally a sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Speed has previously played for the Colts, New England Patriots, and Chicago Bears, suiting up in 15 regular-season games. Over that span, he has tallied 15 total tackles, including one tackle for loss, largely contributing on special teams. Earlier this season, Speed had a brief stint on the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad before being released after just under two weeks.
Now, Speed will join the Texans’ practice squad just days ahead of facing his former team, providing extra depth in the secondary. He joins Damon Arnette, Alijah Huzzie, D’Angelo Ross, K’Von Wallace, and Jalen Mills on the Texans’ practice squad, many of whom have already seen gameday action this season.
Adding Speed bolsters an already deep group of defensive backs, and he could be elevated to the active roster in the coming weeks if the Texans need extra support in the secondary.

Head Coach DeMeco Ryans Shares Update on Team and Delivers Message to Fans
Along with the signing, head coach DeMeco Ryans addressed the team’s current challenges and shared a 12-word message to Houston Texans supporters:
“Your love fuels us, we fight for you and will never disappoint.”
Speaking to reporters, Ryans also commented on the team’s injury situation:
“The injuries have become a bit more complicated than we anticipated, and naturally, everyone’s concerned. But we will adjust, support each other, and continue to give everything on the field.”
This combination of roster moves and heartfelt communication reflects the Texans’ commitment to their fans and highlights the team’s resilience. As Houston prepares for their Week 13 clash with the Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium, the addition of Ameer Speed and the guidance of Ryans aim to keep the squad competitive despite ongoing challenges.
