The Buffalo Bills have been one of the best teams in the league so far through five weeks.

The team just suffered it’s first loss last weekend, falling in a close game to the New England Patriots. It was a disappointing result, but with games against the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers next on the docket, the team should be able to get back in the win column soon.

One area of the team that could use some reinforcements is the cornerback position. Rookie Dorian Strong was recently placed on injured reserve and will have to miss at least the next four games. Fellow rookie corner Maxwell Hairston is also on IR and has yet to make his debut.

As a result, Josh Weil of Pro Football & Sports Network believes the Bills should trade from one area of strength to bolster a weakness. Michael Jackson, a cornerback who is having a solid season with the Panthers, is the exact type of player the Bills could look to trade for.

In Weil’s proposal, the deal looks like this:

• Bills get: CB Michael Jackson
• Panthers get: TE Dawson Knox

“The Buffalo Bills have been constantly hit with injuries at the cornerback position this season, and getting some depth would go a long way toward ensuring they aren’t hanging on by a thread at any point. Mike Jackson is having an incredible season for the Carolina Panthers, ranking as the 11th-best cornerback in the entire league based on our PFSN CBi ranking system, which grades his performance so far at 89.1, or a B+,” Weil explained.

As Weil mentioned, injuries have thinned out the Bills’ secondary, and a low-risk trade like this could be smart. Knox has been a reliable pass-catcher for the Bills in the past, but the veteran is now clearly behind Dalton Kincaid on the depth chart. Rookie Jackson Hawes is around as well, and he has the same amount of yards as Knox so far in 2025.

The trade makes sense for the Panthers as well. The team’s starting tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders has been dealing with an injury, and Knox could bring stability to the position.

Jackson has 19 tackles, one tackle for loss, four pass deflections, and one interception so far in 2025. The corner has a 61.8 grade from Pro Football Focus and holds up well as a run defender as well.

If the Bills executed this trade, they could deploy Jackson on the outside behind Christian Benford until Strong or Hairston are healthy.
