Buffalo, New York – Monday, October 20, 2025
The growing “No Kings” movement — a campaign for democracy and against authoritarian rule — found its voice at Highmark Stadium this weekend. And it came from an unexpected source:
Buffalo Bills co-owner Kim Pegula.
On October 18, more than 7 million Americans took to the streets under the slogan “No Kings, No Thrones, No Crowns.” In Buffalo, hundreds of Bills fans filled the cold fall air with blue-and-red flags, chanting “Freedom Over Fear” and “No Kings in Buffalo.”
The protest began right after the Bills’ 34–6 win over the Jets, transforming a football celebration into a rally for shared values. As crowds gathered outside the stadium, Kim Pegula stepped forward from the players’ tunnel — and made a moment that would go down in Bills history.
“Buffalo’s strength has always been its people,” she said. “No one person defines us — not in this city, not in this country. We rise because we rise together.”
Her remarks electrified the crowd. Within minutes, hashtags like #NoKingsInBuffalo and #BillsStandTogether flooded social media.
One fan wrote: “When your team’s owner says what the country needs to hear — that’s the heart of Buffalo.”
Reactions poured in from across the political spectrum. Progressives praised Pegula’s words as “brave and necessary,” while conservatives accused her of “turning football into politics.”
A source close to the organization later said:
“She didn’t plan a speech. She saw the moment and spoke from her heart. It wasn’t politics — it was about community and equality.”
By Sunday evening, the Buffalo skyline shimmered in red and blue, mirroring the colors worn by protesters nationwide.
What started as a political protest became something more in Western New York — a symbol of resilience, humility, and unity.
As one fan put it simply while leaving Highmark Stadium:
“Washington fights over who’s in charge. In Buffalo, we just fight for each other.”
