💔 Season Ends Too Soon — Chiefs Rookie Suffers Torn ACL After Promising Start👇

Kansas City, MO – October 21, 2025

The Kansas City Chiefs have suffered a tough blow to their young defensive line. Rookie defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott, one of the team’s most promising draft picks this season, has been ruled out for the remainder of the year after suffering a

torn ACL in his right knee.

Norman-Lott sustained the injury during the Week 7 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders, leaving the game in the third quarter and never returning. Head coach

Andy Reid initially told reporters that the team would await MRI results to confirm the severity of the injury. On Monday, those results came in — and the diagnosis was devastating.

“It’s unfortunate for the kid,” Reid said. “He’s been working his tail off and showing real progress. These are tough moments for any young player, but we know he’ll attack the rehab like a pro.”

The injury ends what had been a solid developmental rookie campaign for Norman-Lott, whom Kansas City drafted 63rd overall (Round 2) in the 2025 NFL Draft out of Tennessee. Through five games, the 22-year-old recorded

five total tackles (four solo, one assist) and one sack, which came in Week 2 against Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles — a play that Chiefs reporter Matt McMullen called

“the highlight of his young career.”

Norman-Lott had emerged as part of the Chiefs’ rotational front alongside Chris Jones and Michael Danna, seeing action on roughly 20–30% of defensive snaps per game

. His explosiveness and power on interior rushes offered glimpses of what made him one of the top pass-rushing defensive tackles in college football last year, where he posted an

18.9% pass-rush win rate, the highest among SEC interior linemen in 2024.

Before his injury, Norman-Lott appeared in five of Kansas City’s first seven games — missing Weeks 6 and 7 with lingering knee issues that ultimately led to the season-ending ACL tear.

Game-by-Game Highlights (2025 Season):

  • Week 1 vs. Chargers: 1 solo tackle, 1 pressure on Justin Herbert.

  • Week 2 vs. Eagles: 1 solo tackle, 1.0 sack (4 yards lost) on Jalen Hurts — his breakout performance.

  • Week 3 vs. Giants: 2 total tackles (1 solo, 1 assist).

  • Week 4 vs. Ravens: 1 solo tackle, 1 pressure.

  • Week 5 vs. Jaguars: Limited action, no tackles.

Though the numbers may not reflect his full potential, the coaching staff and teammates had praised Norman-Lott’s effort and maturity. Defensive coordinator

Steve Spagnuolo described him as “a sponge — eager to learn, tough, and committed to doing things the right way.”

Now, the focus shifts to recovery. Norman-Lott is expected to undergo surgery later this week and will begin his rehabilitation process immediately afterward.

For a team with championship aspirations, it’s a tough loss — not just for depth, but for a player who was starting to find his rhythm.

Kansas City’s defensive line depth will now lean more heavily on

Neil Farrell Jr. and Tershawn Wharton’s replacement rotation, but Norman-Lott’s absence leaves a noticeable gap in the interior rush rotation.

Still, in a locker room known for resilience, Norman-Lott’s determination hasn’t gone unnoticed. As one veteran teammate put it:

“Omarr’s got that fight in him. He’ll be back — stronger, meaner, and hungrier than ever.”

For now, Chiefs fans can only hope the rookie’s promising start was a preview of a long, impactful career still to come.
