PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt was a limited participant in practice on Thursday with a hip injury, the team announced.
Watt did not participate in Wednesday’s practice, but that was due to rest. On Thursday, he got back to action, but was not a full participant thanks to a hip injury.
It’s not clear when the injury occurred or how it might impact his status for Sunday’s Week 8 home game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football. Head coach Mike Tomlin did not mention him in his rundown of Steelers injuries on Tuesday. Watt usually speaks with the media on Fridays before Sunday games.
If Watt is unable to play or is limited in his reps, Nick Herbig would likely see additional playing time at left outside linebacker, in addition to at right outside linebacker, where he’s been rotating in behind Alex Highsmith.
Jack Sawyer and DeMarvin Leal can also provide edge depth, as can inside linebacker Malik Harrison, who is a candidate to be activated from the injured reserve list this week.

QB Skylar Thompson

Thompson suffered a hamstring injury in practice leading up to the Steelers’ Week 1 game against the New York Jets, while playing the role of Justin Fields on the Steelers’ scout team offense. He was dressed against the Jets as the emergency third quarterback, but was placed on the injured reserve list on Wednesday, Sept. 10, and by rule must remain there until Week 7.
CB Donte Kent

Kent suffered a right foot/ankle injury in training camp. He returned to practice in a limited capacity before the team’s cut-down to 53 players on Aug. 26. Kent made the initial roster, but was placed on the injured reserve list the next day. He must miss at least four weeks by rule and is eligible to return in Week 6, after the Steelers’ bye, against the Cleveland Browns.
DT Isaiahh Loudermilk
