Ravens Legend STEPS UP to Demand NFL Investigation into Referee Crew as Viral Videos Allege Shawn Hochuli’s Crew Missed Key Calls Leading to Steelers’ Loss Against the Packers

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – What began as a highly anticipated Sunday night showdown between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers has now exploded into a full-blown officiating controversy — one that’s drawing the attention of NFL legends and fans across the league.

Former Baltimore Ravens great Ed Reed has publicly demanded that the NFL open a formal investigation into referee Shawn Hochuli’s crew, following a string of questionable decisions that appeared to swing the momentum squarely in Green Bay’s favor.

Viral clips circulating on social media show multiple missed calls — including a blatant offsides and a two-handed push-off — that directly impacted the game’s outcome. The officiating crew, already under scrutiny for throwing the fourth-most flags through the season’s first seven weeks, now faces mounting criticism for failing to enforce obvious penalties in critical moments.

The controversy began midway through the third quarter. On 3rd and 8, Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers appeared to draw multiple Packers defenders offsides before launching a deep shot to Roman Wilson. Expecting a free play, Rodgers went for the end zone — but no flag came. Even after a lengthy on-field conference, Hochuli’s crew inexplicably let the play stand.

Forced to punt after the blown call, Pittsburgh watched the game unravel just minutes later. On the next Green Bay possession, Packers quarterback Jordan Love heaved a desperate pass under pressure. Tight end Tucker Kraft clearly extended both arms, shoving Steelers safety DeShon Elliott to the turf before hauling in a 59-yard catch-and-run.

To make matters worse, Elliott suffered a serious injury on the play and was ruled out for the rest of the game. Instead of a penalty that would have backed Green Bay up on third and long, the no-call fueled a scoring drive that cut the Steelers’ lead to 16–14.

The chaos didn’t stop there. Moments later, Hochuli’s crew incorrectly ruled a shovel pass from Rodgers to Jaylen Warren as a fumble and Packers recovery — a mistake that was only corrected thanks to an expedited review from the booth.

Though Chris Boswell eventually extended Pittsburgh’s lead to 19–14 with a field goal, the damage had been done. The game’s rhythm, intensity, and fairness were all shaken — and many fans now believe officiating was a major factor in the Steelers’ eventual defeat.

Ed Reed didn’t mince words after watching the footage:

“You can’t have games decided by this kind of officiating,” the Hall of Famer said. “The NFL needs to look into this crew — because this wasn’t just a bad call here or there. It changed the outcome.”

Reed’s comments have since gone viral, with thousands of fans echoing his call for accountability. For the Steelers, it’s a bitter reminder of how razor-thin the margins are in today’s NFL — and how one crew’s failure to enforce the rules can alter an entire game’s fate.

If the league does open an investigation, it could mark a turning point in how officiating crews are evaluated and disciplined moving forward. For now, though, one thing is clear: the North Shore is still fuming — and the debate over Sunday night’s officiating is far from over.
