Two years after his release from the Green Bay Packers, former tight end Dominique Dafney remains a free agent — but his heart, it seems, has never truly left Lambeau Field.
The 27-year-old veteran, who last appeared in an NFL preseason with the Carolina Panthers in 2025, took to social media earlier this week to share an emotional message about his former team. His post quickly caught the attention of Packers fans, many of whom remember his grit and energy during the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
“If Coach LaFleur ever called and said, ‘Dom, we want you back,’ I’d pack my cleats and hit the road right away,” Dafney wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Green Bay made me who I am. I’d give anything to wear that uniform again — even just one more time.”
Dafney’s heartfelt words come at a time when the Packers are navigating a tight end crisis. Starter Tucker Kraft was ruled out for the season with a torn ACL in Week 9, leaving Luke Musgrave as the primary option and creating a potential opening for additional depth at the position.
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Indianapolis Colts in 2020, Dafney later found his footing in Green Bay, appearing in 15 games across two seasons. Known for his blocking ability and toughness, he recorded 4 receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown, and became a reliable special teams contributor before being released in 2022.
Since then, Dafney has bounced around training camps and practice squads but hasn’t appeared in a regular-season game since leaving the Packers. Despite that, his enthusiasm for the team — and for the city — remains unwavering.
“That locker room, that crowd, that cold — it’s all part of something special,” Dafney told a fan podcast last month. “Once you’ve played in Green Bay, nothing ever feels the same again.”
While a reunion remains unlikely, Packers fans have responded warmly to Dafney’s message, flooding his post with encouragement and nostalgic memories. And in a season marked by injuries and roster shuffles, it’s clear that for some players, the bond with Green Bay never truly fades — no matter how much time passes.
