The Buffalo Bills are finally getting healthy at the perfect time. Head coach Sean McDermott confirmed that all seven key players previously listed as questionable have been
activated and cleared to play for Sunday’s showdown against the Carolina Panthers at Highmark Stadium.
After weeks of battling through injuries and narrow contests, the Bills’ locker room has received a massive boost heading into Week 8. The list of returning contributors includes
safety Taylor Rapp (knee), tight end Dalton Kincaid (oblique), defensive tackle DaQuan Jones (calf), wide receiver Curtis Samuel (ribs), linebacker Terrel Bernard (ankle), linebacker Matt Milano (pectoral), and wide receiver Joshua Palmer (knee/ankle).
McDermott praised his team’s resilience, highlighting how this group’s perseverance has carried them through a difficult stretch.
“This group has battled through a lot. We stayed patient, kept working, and now we’re finally getting back to full strength — exactly the kind of momentum we need heading into the heart of the season,” the coach said.
The Bills have carefully managed snap counts and rehab workloads to ensure players like Milano and Jones — two anchors on defense — return at full capacity. On offense, the comeback of
Kincaid and Samuel adds more versatility for quarterback Josh Allen, while Palmer’s availability brings a valuable deep-ball dimension to Buffalo’s aerial attack.

Defensive Backbone Restored
The return of Matt Milano and DaQuan Jones is arguably the biggest headline. Milano, sidelined since a Week 3 pectoral tear, has been the Bills’ defensive quarterback since 2019 — his 2022 Pro Bowl season featured 99 tackles, 12 passes defended, and three interceptions in just 15 games. Jones, the 325-pound run-stuffer, missed four games but still leads all interior linemen in run-stop win rate (42%, per Pro Football Focus) when healthy.
“Having those two back changes everything,” said defensive coordinator Bobby Babich. “Milano’s range in coverage and Jones plugging the A-gap — that’s the identity we built this defense around.”
Terrel Bernard, the 2024 breakout star at middle linebacker, practiced fully all week after rolling his ankle in the Jets game. His 18 tackles for loss since last season rank second among AFC linebackers. Safety Taylor Rapp — who recorded a pick-six in the season opener — returns to pair with Damar Hamlin, forming one of the league’s most physical safety tandems.
Offensive Firepower Reloaded
On the other side of the ball, Dalton Kincaid’s oblique strain had robbed Josh Allen of his most reliable chain-mover. Kincaid’s 72% catch rate and 9.8 yards per target lead all Bills pass-catchers. Curtis Samuel, acquired in free agency for his gadget versatility, missed two games but now gives offensive coordinator Joe Brady another chess piece in motion packages.
And then there’s Joshua Palmer — the midseason trade acquisition from the Chargers. Palmer’s 17.4 yards per reception since joining Buffalo instantly stretches the field. Allen’s deep-ball completion percentage jumps from 38% to 55% when Palmer is on the roster (Next Gen Stats).
“Josh has been playing MVP-level football with one hand tied behind his back,” Brady said. “Give him all his weapons, and good luck to any secondary.”
Panthers Present Perfect Get-Right Opportunity
Carolina limps into Orchard Park at 1-6, riding a four-game losing skid and ranked 31st in total defense. Quarterback Bryce Young has been sacked 28 times — third-most in the NFL — and the Panthers’ run game averages a paltry 3.1 yards per carry.
Buffalo’s revamped front seven should feast. Last season, the Bills generated 11 sacks in two meetings against Carolina. With Jones and Milano back, expect that pressure to spike.
Playoff Implications Looming
At 4-3, Buffalo sits tied with Miami atop the AFC East but owns the head-to-head tiebreaker. A win Sunday would push them to 5-3 before a brutal November stretch: at Cincinnati, vs. Kansas City, vs. San Francisco.
Oddsmakers have installed the Bills as 13.5-point favorites — the largest spread of McDermott’s tenure. But the coach isn’t buying complacency.
“Health doesn’t guarantee wins,” McDermott warned. “It guarantees opportunity. We’ve got to execute.”
Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM ET. For the first time all season, the Bills will trot out their full arsenal. Carolina might just be the unlucky team that finds out what “full strength” really means.
