The Seattle Seahawks have dismissed their communications director after a controversial post on the team’s official fan page following Sunday’s 31-17 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers
The post, which was deleted shortly after going live, read: “Steelers called it ‘Steel City’… but tonight it looked more like Rust City.” While intended as banter, the message quickly drew backlash for being unprofessional and disrespectful toward Pittsburgh.

Sources inside the organization said team ownership and senior leadership moved quickly to address the fallout. By late Sunday evening, the communications director responsible for overseeing the post had been relieved of duties.
In a statement, the Seahawks said: “The content posted on our official channels did not reflect the values of the Seattle Seahawks. We hold ourselves to the highest standards of professionalism and respect, both on and off the field. Corrective action has been taken immediately.”

Head coach Mike Macdonald declined to speak directly about the firing but emphasized the team’s focus: “We came here to play football, not to create distractions. We’ll continue to focus on what happens between the lines.”
The message had briefly circulated online, with rival fans mocking the tone and Steelers supporters calling it “classless.” Many Seahawks fans also criticized the post, saying it overshadowed a strong on-field performance in which Seattle shut down Pittsburgh’s passing attack and forced a costly special teams mistake.
As the Seahawks turn their attention to Week 3, the incident serves as a reminder of the power — and danger — of words in the digital era. For Seattle, the win over the Steelers should have been the headline. Instead, an ill-judged post turned the spotlight onto the organization’s off-field discipline.
