Josh Allen wore something special after beating the Chiefs — and it wasn’t just for style.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — All season, Bills quarterback Josh Allen has worn custom-designed New Era caps — designed by Oishei Children’s Hospital patients — at home games to help raise money for its pediatric care.
With previous home games, he’s worn those hats in the tunnel, on his way to the locker room, to get ready for the game. He called an audible on Sunday, though, wearing this week’s cap to the postgame news conference, following a 28-21 win against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
“First of all, I want to shout out Carson for making this hat,” Allen said, starting his news conference. “I did not wear it on the walk-in today. I did not see it in my locker. Hand up, I take accountability for that. I got it on now, so thanks, Carson.”
The cap he wore Sunday was designed by a 7-year-old named Carson, who was rushed to Oishei after complications from a high fever led to cardiac arrest, septic shock, and multiple strokes, leaving him unable to walk, according to New Era officials.

With determination and extensive physical therapy, Carson regained his strength and eventually walked out of the hospital on his own. Soon after, Carson took part in his school’s Fun Run.
Carson’s New Era cap features gold front panels, hearts, and bright colors that reflect his creativity. At the start of Sunday’s game, the cap Allen wears to Highmark Stadium will be auctioned to the public, with all proceeds benefiting the Patricia Allen Fund. Each cap is signed by Allen and authenticated by the team.
The auction runs through 8 p.m. Tuesday and will continue for the remaining Bills home games. Each home game highlights a cap designed by a different Oishei Children’s Hospital patient and their personalized cap.
The Patricia Allen Fund supports the hospital’s critical care teams, with 100% of donations directly benefiting children and families across Western New York. Money from previous games and caps include:
- Week 1 against Baltimore, Allen wore Jaxson’s cap, raising $17,150.
- Week 3 against Miami, Allen wore MaKenzie’s cap, raising $15,495.
- Week 4 against New Orleans, Allen wore Charlie’s cap, raising $3,600.
- Week 5 against New England, Allen wore Bryn’s cap, raising $9,050.
