Mayor Cherelle L. Parker Thanks Jalen Hurts for “Philly Feeds Philly” Campaign – Together, They Bring Hope and Warm Meals to Over 300,000 Philadelphians

As the cost of living continues to rise and hundreds of thousands of Philadelphians struggle to put food on the table, Mayor Cherelle L. Parker has extended a heartfelt message of gratitude to Jalen Hurts, the star quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles, after he pledged his support for the citywide initiative “Philly Feeds Philly” – a campaign dedicated to fighting hunger and food insecurity across the city.
According to the Mayor’s Office, more than 300,000 Philadelphians – including one in three children – lack reliable, affordable access to nutritious food. As living expenses soar, more families are being forced to rely on SNAP benefits and local food assistance programs to get by.
Standing alongside Mayor Parker at City Hall, Jalen Hurts announced a $75,000 donation and called on residents, businesses, and Eagles fans to join the effort by supporting local organizations such as Philabundance, Share Food Program, and The Sunday Love Project.
Hurts’ remarks struck a deep emotional chord with everyone present:
“I was raised in a family that always believed in giving. I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to stand on a big stage, and Philly has taught me how to be a better person. The “Philly Feeds Philly” campaign aims to raise over $5 million during this holiday season, providing hundreds of thousands of meals and essential groceries to families in need. Within hours of the announcement, the hashtag #PhillyFeedsPhilly began trending across social media, with local businesses, restaurants, and Eagles fans pledging to take part.
As winter approaches, the image of Mayor Parker and Jalen Hurts standing side by side — one representing leadership, the other the spirit of Philadelphia — sent a powerful message across the city:
