Everybody assumed that the Houston Texans would fall off a cliff after CJ Stroud suffered a concussion against the Denver Broncos.
On November 2nd, the Houston Texans quarterback had his head bounce off the turf inside NRG Stadium. He has not played a game since.
Stroud, who had issues with the team regarding the offense, finally returned to practice this week, but not in time to play on Thursday Night Football against the Buffalo Bills.
That meant Davis Mills had to play for a third-straight game.
Last night, Mills had 153 passing yards and two touchdowns against the Buffalo Bills. It wasn’t his most efficient game, but he took care of business and willed the team to a third-straight victory while CJ Stroud has been out.
It doesn’t appear that everyone was happy about it.
CJ Stroud Looked Miserable
In the locker room inside NRG Stadium, the atmosphere was high as the Texans continued to keep their season alive, trying to position themselves to make the postseason.
As head coach DeMeco Ryans spoke and handed out game balls, someone took a screenshot of the moment that showed starting quarterback CJ Stroud looking rather disapproving that Mills was receiving so much praise.
“CJ Stroud is fired up! 😂😂😂😂😂,” one fan pointed out while providing commentary.
“Davis has been phenomenal for us these past couple of weeks,”
Ryans said during the press conference after the game.
“Coming in, especially on a short week, not getting a ton of full-speed reps, that timing of throwing the football, that has affected a little bit. I thought he weathered the storm, and he handled himself well, even though we had some passes there we would like to connect on. He still stayed steady, stayed calm as he always does, keeping everybody else calm on the sideline, and he did a great job there in the two-minute drive before the half… That was huge for us.”
After beginning the game 1 for 8 for 10 yards, Mills heated up and completed 10 of 13 throws for 112 yards and two touchdown passes to Jayden Higgins and Christian Kirk, and finished the game 16 of 30 for 153 yards and a 90.0 passer rating.
With the next two days off, Stroud should take over as the starter again next week against the AFC South-leading Indianapolis Colts.
