Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania β November 5, 2025.
Daequan Hardy β the hometown hero who once dominated the high school fields of Penn Hills before shining at Penn State β has officially returned home. Today, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced they have signed the defensive back to their practice squad.
For Western Pennsylvania fans, this isnβt just a signing β itβs a homecoming story.

From Penn Hills Kid to NFL Dream
Hardy is a true son of the WPIAL β where football dreams are built on grit, mud, and heart.
He was the brightest star at Penn Hills High School, leading his team to the 2018 PIAA Class 5A State Championship with a legendary performance:
3 takeaways, 4 touchdowns β including one from an interception and another from a kickoff return.
That magical run put his name on the map and opened the doors to Penn State University.
Shining at Penn State β and the Road to the NFL
At Penn State, Hardy played in 48 games, recording 60 tackles, 25 pass breakups, and 5 interceptions.
He also served as a return specialist, where his speed and agility made fans leap out of their seats.
After being drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the 6th round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Hardy spent his rookie year on the practice squad β learning, grinding, and waiting for his shot.
Now, that shot has arrived β and itβs come from his own hometown team.
More Than Football β A Full-Circle Moment
For Hardy, returning to Pittsburgh means more than just another chance in the league.
Itβs a full-circle moment β from the kid in Penn Hills, to a Penn State standout, to wearing the black and gold of the team that raised him.
Fans across Steelers Nation immediately exploded with pride on social media:
βFrom Penn Hills to Penn State to the Pittsburgh Steelers β this is destiny!β
βWelcome home, Daequan. Western PA never forgets its own.β
Hardy β A Symbol of Grit and Loyalty
The Steelers are seeking depth in their secondary, but Hardy brings something deeper β the Pittsburgh spirit.
A spirit forged in early-morning practices, tough losses, and relentless dreams.
As Coach Mike Tomlin once said:
βHere in Pittsburgh, we donβt just look for players. We look for men with iron hearts.β
And in Daequan Hardy, it seems heβs found exactly that.
