In a stunning post-game press conference, Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur publicly accused the Carolina Panthers of playing “dirty tricks” during their closely contested matchup on Sunday, which ended in a narrow 16-13 loss for the Packers.
LaFleur singled out referee Land Clark, claiming the official made calls that “deliberately favored” the Panthers and directly impacted the outcome of the game.
“We fought hard for every yard, but some of the calls were completely unacceptable,” LaFleur said. “It felt like the deck was stacked against us. This is not how football should be played.”
The controversy centers around a late-game penalty that pushed the Packers out of field goal range, allowing Carolina to take the lead in the final minutes. Social media erupted with fans criticizing the officiating, with many echoing LaFleur’s concerns.
Panthers head coach Frank Reich, however, dismissed the accusations. “I don’t think there was any bias from the officials,” Reich said. “It was a hard-fought game, and the better plays won today.”
Despite the defeat, the Packers remain in playoff contention, but the loss has left fans and analysts questioning the fairness of the officiating. NFL spokespersons have yet to comment on whether the league will review Clark’s calls.
The Packers will look to bounce back in their next matchup as they continue to fight for a postseason spot in a tightly contested NFC North.
