Safety Miles Killebrew speaks out after injury – names a defensive back with over 600 career tackles: “If it’s not him, I don’t believe anyone else can carry this responsibility.”

When the Pittsburgh Steelers lost special teams captain Miles Killebrew to a season-ending knee injury, many wondered how the team would fill both the leadership and energy he brought every week. But just a week after Killebrew’s surgery, the spotlight has shifted to a familiar name — Jabrill Peppers, who has stepped in as the team’s personal protector on punts and immediately made an impact.
According to team sources, it was actually Killebrew himself who suggested Peppers to head coach Mike Tomlin after learning he would be sidelined for the rest of the year.
“If I can’t be out there, Peppers is the guy I trust to lead this unit,” Killebrew reportedly told teammates. “He’s got the experience, the composure, and above all — he’s a teammate you can count on.”
Peppers, 29, is a versatile veteran who has played both safety and returner during his eight NFL seasons, spending time with the Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, and New England Patriots before joining Pittsburgh.
